If required, you may use an eye mask to block out remaining light.

* Listen to soft and sooting music – Researches reveal that listening to calm and soothing non-vocal music helps you to relax and sleep quickly. It also lessens the possibility of waking up middle of the night; in turn, it helps to get a good sleep and avoid general health problems, such as, lack of concentration and certain mental disorders.

* Meditate before going to bed – One of the major causes of insomnia is that people keep worrying and planning about the next day that make them stay busy throughout their sleep. In order to avoid this, try to meditate, which will help to keep your mind under control.

* Drink plenty of water throughout the day – Drink plenty of water as it helps to flush out the toxins from your body. In turn, it helps to avoid general health problems and stay healthy. However, minimize the intake of water a few hours before going to sleep. Otherwise, you may have to wake up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom.

Don’ts:

* Work with your laptop in the bedroom – If you’re suffering from insomnia, then it is advisable that you don’t use your bedroom for watching TV or working with your laptop. You shouldn’t also eat in your bedroom. All such activities signal your body to stay alert thus affecting your sleep.
